Lorrie Deyelle Mailhot | Founder, Studio6229
Bags. In-the-Hoop Embroidery. Sewing Education. Elevated.
Now fully immersed in her creative chapter, Lorrie Deyelle Mailhot is the maker and educator behind Studio6229—a space dedicated to handbag design, in-the-hoop embroidery, and inspiring sewists of all levels.
Lorrie’s passion is handbag making. She designs and creates everything from everyday totes and crossbody bags to wallets, pouches, and structured briefcases. She especially loves working with leather, cork, vinyl, pleather, and cotton—combining durability, function, and style to create pieces that are meant to be used and loved.
With over 25 years of teaching experience, Lorrie specializes in:
- Handbag design and construction
- In-the-hoop embroidery
- General sewing education for all skill levels
She is known for making complex techniques approachable and confidence-building—helping sewists master new materials, expand their skills, and create projects they’re proud to carry.
Before trading boardrooms for sewing rooms, Lorrie built an impressive 35+ year career transforming human resource organizations. She served as CHRO at Medicago and CareCentrix, and as Vice President of Human Resources across several prominent organizations. After retiring, she chose to fully follow her passion—focusing on handbag design and construction, in-the-hoop embroidery, and expanding her work as a sewing educator.
In addition to her work at Studio6229, Lorrie has spent over 20 years as a professor at Northeastern University and as an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College, bringing a strong foundation in teaching, structure, and curriculum development to every class she leads.
She is also the former owner of the Blue Bear Inn in Francestown, NH, where she restored and operated a 200-year-old inn and hosted sewing retreats, creative workshops, and community events.
A lifelong sewing enthusiast, Lorrie continues to share her craft through teaching, events, and community engagement. She is the founder of Billerica Twirls, a nonprofit organization that creates handmade clothing for 18-inch dolls—combining creativity with giving back.
Lorrie is married with 4 children and two grand daughters and loves to spend time with her family.
