So I posted on Monday how excited I was when the crew showed up to dig up the area for the footings. The folks worked all day. Tuesday I awoke thinking they would be at the house by 7:30 am. Guess what they didn’t come. Wednesday they arrived and made the form for the base of the footings, today they poured the cement for the walls. It’s funny to me how construction works.

I am so excited and I think they are working at a snails pace. They how were think they are working quickly. Do they realize I have waited for years for the dream sewing room? Well to them it is there lively hood; to me I can’t wait.

Not sure what happens tomorrow so stay tuned for more fun at the Ferraro house.

Sewing studio - breaking ground

Monday we broke ground. How exciting to know the project is underway. It was fun watching the backhoe tear apart the patio and then digging the holes for the frost wall and footings. More to come.

Wallpaper and Fabric – My design

Wallpaper and Fabric - My design

Happy Thursday! I decided that the bathroom in my sewing studio should have a theme. So since I was born in 1962 – and I loved the fashion from that era I thought I should design a 1962 bathroom. I really like black, red and white combinations so I went on the internet and found 12 fashion pictures from 1962. I created a collage then made it all black and white except for the lovely lady wearing the red dress, I let her stay colorful. I then uploaded my images to http://www.spoonflower.com and voila – created this wallpaper and fabric. So the bathroom will be wallpapered, I have purchased a sink base that is laminate and red. I have a 1962 Barbie in the box and dressed in 1962 fashion that will go on a shelf in the corner. I also have two 1962 vintage patterns that I have now framed and will go on the wall in the bathroom….Now to figure out the next thing….:)

Sewing Space today!!!

Hi Everyone: So here is what the space looks like today. I started off in an 8 x 10 corner room – no windows but was able to put in L-shaped cabinets. All was going well until I bought too much stuff. I have the same amount of space across the hall and it is only for fabric. I put my cutting tables and ironing board in the family room, then Lindsay moved out and I took her room which is 12 x 12. You can see by the pictures that I just moved tables into it. So I am moving from 2 small rooms and some space in the family room to one large space….keep reading there will be more posts coming up as we progress with the project…Ferraro Exist cab & equip photos (1)

Layout for Studip

So here is the design for the studio.  Lots of sewing space and places for all my machines including the Enterprise 10 thread embroidery machine, the leather industrial machine, 2 sergers, 3 sewing machine and all of the fabric one could imagine.  On the far right hand wall – which is 26 feet long, I have met with a designer and will have space for my sewing library, all the fabric and ribbons and the center piece will be my 1962 sewing machine.  Can’t wait for permits to be approved and get going on this project. Layout change new dimensions

Sewing studio update

It has been quite a busy couple of weeks.  Conceiving and drawing the perfect sewing room To signing an agreement.

Conceptually I knew what I wanted so how do I tell a builder what it should look like.  As a visual person myself I had to work out the design.  So I did like most people do and did an online search for a 3D program that will allow me to design and see the room.

I found Homestyler.com and it was good enough for what I needed.   I promptly entered in my room size and then added doors, walls, a bathroom and the furniture.  Homestyler didn’t have actual sewing furniture so I improvised with dining tables and other items roughly the same size I then took my design and made it 3D.

I called GM Roth designers in New Hampshire and went up to visit them.  Gerry is terrific, he came to the house measured where I wanted the room, he took pictures and measurements off everything that I had and then he created the architect plans.

It only took us a coup,e of revisions and last Thursday he submitted plans to the town for approval.

So now my job is to figure out flooring, paint etc.   stay tuned tomorrow and I will update you on the adventures of flooring.

Sewing Studio fun

For a number of years now I have been sewing in a small space in my basement.  Last year my oldest daughter moved out and I took over her bedroom.  So at the present time I have her bedroom with tables and cutting, a little tiny nook with machines and storage and a closet with fabric.  I should also add that I have two McCalls pattern files in the family room and a large entertainment center with all my kits and tools.

So what’s next.  I have just met with a designer and am about to launch a major project.  It is time to create a Sewing Studio.  It is going to be off the back of the house and will incorporate all of the above into the room.

I will post pictures of the before and after so you can see the studio transformation.
