Wallpaper and Fabric – My design

Wallpaper and Fabric - My design

Happy Thursday! I decided that the bathroom in my sewing studio should have a theme. So since I was born in 1962 – and I loved the fashion from that era I thought I should design a 1962 bathroom. I really like black, red and white combinations so I went on the internet and found 12 fashion pictures from 1962. I created a collage then made it all black and white except for the lovely lady wearing the red dress, I let her stay colorful. I then uploaded my images to http://www.spoonflower.com and voila – created this wallpaper and fabric. So the bathroom will be wallpapered, I have purchased a sink base that is laminate and red. I have a 1962 Barbie in the box and dressed in 1962 fashion that will go on a shelf in the corner. I also have two 1962 vintage patterns that I have now framed and will go on the wall in the bathroom….Now to figure out the next thing….:)

Sewing Space today!!!

Hi Everyone: So here is what the space looks like today. I started off in an 8 x 10 corner room – no windows but was able to put in L-shaped cabinets. All was going well until I bought too much stuff. I have the same amount of space across the hall and it is only for fabric. I put my cutting tables and ironing board in the family room, then Lindsay moved out and I took her room which is 12 x 12. You can see by the pictures that I just moved tables into it. So I am moving from 2 small rooms and some space in the family room to one large space….keep reading there will be more posts coming up as we progress with the project…Ferraro Exist cab & equip photos (1)

Layout for Studip

So here is the design for the studio.  Lots of sewing space and places for all my machines including the Enterprise 10 thread embroidery machine, the leather industrial machine, 2 sergers, 3 sewing machine and all of the fabric one could imagine.  On the far right hand wall – which is 26 feet long, I have met with a designer and will have space for my sewing library, all the fabric and ribbons and the center piece will be my 1962 sewing machine.  Can’t wait for permits to be approved and get going on this project. Layout change new dimensions

Sewing studio update

It has been quite a busy couple of weeks.  Conceiving and drawing the perfect sewing room To signing an agreement.

Conceptually I knew what I wanted so how do I tell a builder what it should look like.  As a visual person myself I had to work out the design.  So I did like most people do and did an online search for a 3D program that will allow me to design and see the room.

I found Homestyler.com and it was good enough for what I needed.   I promptly entered in my room size and then added doors, walls, a bathroom and the furniture.  Homestyler didn’t have actual sewing furniture so I improvised with dining tables and other items roughly the same size I then took my design and made it 3D.

I called GM Roth designers in New Hampshire and went up to visit them.  Gerry is terrific, he came to the house measured where I wanted the room, he took pictures and measurements off everything that I had and then he created the architect plans.

It only took us a coup,e of revisions and last Thursday he submitted plans to the town for approval.

So now my job is to figure out flooring, paint etc.   stay tuned tomorrow and I will update you on the adventures of flooring.

Sewing Studio fun

For a number of years now I have been sewing in a small space in my basement.  Last year my oldest daughter moved out and I took over her bedroom.  So at the present time I have her bedroom with tables and cutting, a little tiny nook with machines and storage and a closet with fabric.  I should also add that I have two McCalls pattern files in the family room and a large entertainment center with all my kits and tools.

So what’s next.  I have just met with a designer and am about to launch a major project.  It is time to create a Sewing Studio.  It is going to be off the back of the house and will incorporate all of the above into the room.

I will post pictures of the before and after so you can see the studio transformation.

Update

Well it’s time to get back to blogging so you will know what is happening at SEWFUNLOL.

In January I decided I needed to sew more, and made a resolution to sew at least 30 minutes a day or 210 minutes a week.  So far I have kept this resolution.

I am sewing all kinds of things, the biggest project is the Feathered Star by the Hoopsisters.  I will post a photo when it’s done.

I am also hoping to build a sewing studio onto the back of the house, if I do I will be offering classes…so stay tuned.

Day 15 – the long trip home

Early to bed early to rise…..that is what they say makes us healthy, wealthy and wise….I might also add a bit tired too.

Well we had our last morning wake up call – 6:30 am to be exact, luggage out by 7:30 and board the bus for the last time.  We all need to be on the bus at 8:30.  So where is Darlene – the search begins and we find out she thinks we are leaving at 9:30 – well we leave at 9.  Charlie thinks we should take the bullet train so we go there but leave all our stuff on the bus.  It will meet us at the airport.  WE get on the train – the speed climbs to 431 KMH, we get to Pudong airport in 7 minutes….so we trek up to where the buses are – pick up our luggage and begin the check in.  Now we have 2 hours to wait to take an 11 hour flight back. I should add a little story here.

While sitting there waiting we were next to Bob and Tammy.  We were discussing when everyone would get home.  They would be there by supper.  I told them I had to drop Sharon off and would be home by midnight.  He asked me how far my mother lived from me….I was a bit puzzled and answered “She died – and is not really that close”.  He was a bit embarrassed – told me he thought Sharon was my mom.  When Sharon came back I told her and we laughed hysterically…well maybe she didn’t think it was funny but I did…

We are now settled on the plane, guess who is next to me?  Darlene on one side and Sharon on the other…there are problems with the entertainment center, so we read, do crossword puzzles, talk, talk, talk, then we read and do crossword puzzles.  Finally we get a movie…then its time to eat.  Yummy more chinese food for us…ok, we chose the chicken and potatoes…so its time now to read, do crossword puzzles, watch a movie and get a snack.  The flight seems to take forever but we make it to SFO a bit earlier than anticipated.

Great – we go thru customs, no issues here and now we are off to find out what time our next flight is.  It is now 7:30 am SFO time, our flight is not until 1:50 ugggg….ok well let’s go eat then.  So we truck over to the food court and guess what our choices are?  Yup you got it right, more chinese…or japenese but the third option is Lori’s Diner….seems like a good choice to me.  So Sharon and I order – she gets eggs and I get a club sandwich with french fries.  It feels like heaven…We go and check in and begin the long wait for our flight.

Sharon went for a walk around 12 and came back with a surprise.  Well if you remember our adventures in Xi’an then you will remember we wanted a piece of chocolate cake.  Sharon was able to find great cake in SFO.  We happily ate this as our lunch.  Time to board the plane.  Plane is packed but that’s ok – it’s nothing new.  Flight is 5.5 hours and on this flight we get free TV so we are able to occupy ourselves with SVU and other interesting shows.  Sharon dozes for a bit and wakes up because she realizes she is snoring…well c’est la vie – we have been up for over 26 hours at this point.

We arrive in Boston, Brian and the kids are there to get us and they give us a surprise.  A beautiful plate of watermelon.  They thought we would be hungry.  We get home, crash for a bit and then around 2:30 it is time to get up…..well somewhere in the world it is time to get up.

I doesn’t matter – I am really happy to be home in my bed, with my pillow and know that I can see my family when they awake.  I would not have changed anything on this trip…we made great friends and had great adventures.   Stay tuned, I know I will have something new to say real soon.
